Attorney Biographies
Alec J. Beck (Shareholder),
Alec J. Beck has more than a decade of experience advising and representing employers, and regularly represents employers in proceedings before both state and federal courts, the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, as well as various other agencies. Mr. Beck has practiced exclusively in the areas of labor relations, employment law, and workers’ compensation. He is considered an expert in the interplay of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and Workers’ Compensation law. Mr. Beck also provides ongoing counsel and training for employers regarding human resource management, employee relations strategies, and the avoidance of employment-related disputes and liability. In 1999 and 2000 Mr. Beck was chosen one of Minnesota’s “Rising Stars” in the legal field by Law & Politics Magazine, and in 2003 he was chosen as a “Super Lawyer,” representing the top 5% of attorneys in Minnesota. He has degrees from the University of Minnesota and William Mitchell College of Law.
Robert L. Grossman (Of Counsel),
Robert L. Grossman worked as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board prior to opening his own law offices representing management in labor and employment matters where he was managing partner until becoming Of Counsel to this firm in 1997. Mr. Grossman’s client base has been diverse, including a number of companies in the Fortune 500 category and has represented clients in almost every region of the National Labor Relations Board concerning representation petitions and unfair labor practice charges. He has been involved in countless numbers of National Labor Relations Board elections over the past 26 years and devoted a substantial amount of time to keeping clients union free. For his unionized clients, Mr. Grossman has negotiated contracts, arbitrated grievances, and litigated pension and contract issues in both state and federal courts. Additionally, he has successfully set up double-breasted operations and decertified existing unions. He has conducted in-house workshops with companies across the country on a variety of labor and employment topics and has successfully recovered attorneys’ fees and costs from the NLRB under the Equal Access to Justice Act. Mr. Grossman has extensive experience in the area of employment law practicing before state and federal courts, as well as the various agencies throughout the United States. Mr. Grossman has degrees from The University of Wisconsin and The University of Minnesota Law School.
Robin N. Kelleher (Associate),
Robin N. Kelleher advises and defends employers on a wide range of employment and labor related matters including discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge, retaliation, FMLA, ADA, employment contracts, wage and hour, unemployment compensation, employment compliance matters, collective bargaining, election proceedings, arbitrations, picketing, strikes, and secondary boycotts. In 2003, she served as the Deputy Commissioner and Acting Commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, and recently rejoined the firm. She is also active in the Society for Human Resource Management and has been certified by that organization as a Senior Professional in Human Resources. Ms. Kelleher was a contributing editor to the Minnesota State Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Newsletter from 1996 through 2003 and has also co-authored several articles. Ms. Kelleher holds her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law.
Brittany J. Mayer-Schuler (Associate),
Brittany J. Mayer-Schuler is an associate attorney with Seaton, Beck & Peters, P.A. She advises and represents employers on various employment and labor related matters, including discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation, FMLA, ADA, employment contracts, employment compliance matters, affirmative action plans, and non-compete and non-solicitation agreements. Ms. Mayer-Schuler graduated, magna cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law where she received the CALI Award and was a Burton Award Finalist. While in law school, she served as a Judicial Extern for United States Federal Magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan and worked as a law clerk for Target Corporation. Ms. Mayer-Schuler earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Minnesota. Ms. Mayer-Schuler is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, Ramsey County Bar Association, and is licensed to practice before the state courts of Minnesota and North Dakota.
Michael L. McCain (Associate),
Michael L. McCain represents employers exclusively in the area of labor and employment law and advises employers on various matters including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour law, employment contracts and policies and non-compete/non-solicitation agreements. Mr. McCain graduated, cum laude, from the University of Northern Iowa where he received his bachelor of arts in Psychology. He received his law degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. McCain is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Labor & Employment Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Hennepin County Bar Association. Jon S. Olson (Associate),
Jon S. Olson practices exclusively in the areas of labor and employment law, and has represented employers before state and federal courts, the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, the Minnesota Department of Labor, and other state and municipal agencies. Mr. Olson has experience defending against claims of race, sex, age, and disability discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, violations of the Family and Medical Leave Act, Whistleblower Act violations, breach of contract and non-compete agreements, as well as other employment related tort claims. Mr. Olson represents and advises employers in unfair labor practice proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board, including defending employers in 10(j) injunction proceedings initiated by the Board. He has been involved in numerous NLRB elections and representational hearings, has substantial experience advising employers on union avoidance strategies and also provides advice and representation to unionized employers during collective bargaining negotiations. Mr. Olson has degrees from St. Olaf College and Hamline University School of Law.
Gregory L. Peters (Shareholder),
Gregory L. Peters focuses his practice on labor and employment litigation where he represents employers before various state and federal courts, the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Department of Labor and parallel state agencies. He has represented employers before federal and state courts and agencies throughout the United States in disputes involving virtually all areas of labor and employment law. He also successfully represented employers before the United States Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Minnesota and Wisconsin Court of Appeals. Mr. Peters also has extensive arbitration, collective bargaining, union organizing and strike management experience and provides advice or training to employers in all areas of labor and employment law and employee relations. Mr. Peters is a member of the Minnesota and Wisconsin Bar Associations and has been named a “Rising Star” by Law and Politics for the past 5 years. He has a Bachelors of Science in Labor Relations and Personnel Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and a law degree from Marquette University Law School.
Thomas R. Revnew (Shareholder),
Thomas R. Revnew advises and regularly represents employers in proceedings before both state and federal courts, the National Labor Relations Board, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, as well as various other state and federal agencies. Emily L. Ruhsam (Associate),
Emily L. Ruhsam advises and represents employers on various employment and labor related matters including discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation, wage and hour law, FMLA, ADA, employment contracts, employment compliance matters, non-compete and non-solicitation agreements. Ms. Ruhsam received her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in 2008. During law school, Ms. Ruhsam clerked with the Upper Midwest Pension Rights Project, Equal Opportunity Employment Commission, Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, and served as an Employment and Labor Law research assistant. Ms. Ruhsam also founded the Employment and Labor Law Society and served as its first President. Before attending law school, Ms. Ruhsam worked as a Human Resources Representative for the Marshfield Clinic. She graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2001 with a Bachelors of Business Administration emphasizing in Human Resources Management. Ms. Ruhsam is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources by the Society for Human Resources Management and active in the Society for Human Resource Management. She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Association and is licensed to practice before the state court of Minnesota.
Douglas P. Seaton (Shareholder),
Douglas P. Seaton is a founding shareholder of Seaton, Beck & Peters, P.A. He counsels and advises employers and trade associations on employment policies and practices and employment problem-solving of all kinds, and represents employers in federal and state court litigation and administrative proceedings involving labor and employment claims and charges. Mr. Seaton also advises and represents employers in connection with union organizing campaigns, collective bargaining, strike management and National Labor Relations Board proceedings. He has handled numerous individual employee termination proceedings and arbitrations in non-union and union settings. Mr. Seaton has taught numerous employment and labor law legal education and employer training sessions, has published a book and numerous articles in legal and trade periodicals, and has spoken on employment law topics to legislative committees, gubernatorial task forces, trade association meetings and legal education seminars in several states. He is a member of the local, state and federal employment and labor law bar sections, and has chaired the Hennepin County Bar Labor and Employment Law Section and the Minnesota State Bar Labor and Employment Law Section. Mr. Seaton has been designated one of Minnesota’s “Leading American Attorneys” in a poll of lawyers conducted by American Research Corporation and as a “Super Lawyer” by Law and Politics and Twin Cities Business magazines. Mr. Seaton has degrees from Princeton, Rutgers and William Mitchell College of Law.
Bryan T. Symes (Associate),
Bryan T. Symes represents employers exclusively in the area of employment and labor law, and provides counseling and litigation services associated with such substantive topics as employment practices policies, discrimination, harassment, reprisal, unemployment benefits, wage and hour law, FMLA, ADA, employment contracts, employment compliance matters, affirmative action plans, and non-compete and non-solicitation agreements. Mr. Symes contributes to and co-edits “Bar Talk,” the monthly newsletter of the Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He authored “Constructive Discharge in the Eighth Circuit: A Primer for New Lawyers,” and co-authored “Employment Law A to Z – A Whirlwind Tour through Employment Law for Those Less Experienced.” Mr. Symes is an active member of the Federal Bar Association (Communications Committee), the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and the Hennepin County Bar Association; he is licensed to practice before the state and federal courts of Minnesota and Illinois. Corie J. Tarara (Associate),
Corie J. Tarara advises and represents employers on various employment and labor related matters, including discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation, FMLA, ADA, employment contracts, employment compliance matters, affirmative action plans, and non-compete and non-solicitation agreements. Ms. Tarara previously worked as an associate at the law firm of Winthrop & Weinstine and prior to receiving her law degree, she was a paralegal and law clerk working closely with management on union and non-union matters such as OSHA compliance, workers’ compensation, safety programs, accommodations, harassment investigations, and discipline and termination issues, among other daily employee-related matters. Ms. Tarara received her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and her law degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law.
