Firm Description

The Law Firm of Isler Dare, PC is Northern Virginia’s premier labor and employment law boutique firm. The practice of the Firm is dedicated exclusively to representing employers in addressing employment issues. The Firm advises management with respect to counseling and disciplining employees, and represents employers in responding to discrimination and harassment claims before the EEOC and in federal or state court. In addition, the Firm provides guidance on wage-hour issues (FLSA and SCA), and engages in drafting and litigating issues related to non-compete agreements. Prior to establishing the Firm ten years ago, each of the Firm’s four partners practiced law with some of the nation’s largest law firms, and the firm is committed to providing the same quality representation at a reasonable cost.
 

Attorney Biographies

Steven W. Ray (Partner),
Steven W. Ray is a founding partner of Isler Dare Ray Radcliffe & Connolly, P.C. (formerly Ray & Isler, P.C.). Prior to establishing the Firm in 1997, Steve represented employers in the Washington, D.C. area for ten years as an attorney with local firms, Kruchko & Fries in McLean, and Epstein, Becker & Green in Washington, D.C.

Steve advises employers and speaks on subjects such as workplace security and monitoring, employee theft relating to electronic data, sexual harassment, union organizing, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Service Contract Act, and affirmative action. He has represented employers in courts throughout the country, in particular California where he practiced for several years, in cases arising under federal and state laws.

Edward Lee Isler (Partner),
Edward Lee Isler is a native of the Washington Metropolitan Area and is a founding partner of Isler Dare Ray Radcliffe & Connolly, P.C. (formerly Ray & Isler, P.C.). Prior to establishing the Firm in 1997, Eddie spent seven years practicing labor, employment, and employee benefits law in Washington, D.C. with a national firm, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, and two years with a regional firm, Kruchko & Fries. Before beginning private practice, Eddie served a one-year term as judicial clerk to the Honorable James C. Turk, Chief Judge for the United States District Court, Western District of Virginia.

Eddie has achieved national recognition as a leading employment law attorney and maintains an outstanding reputation as an advocate for his clients’ interests in and out of the courtroom. He presently serves as Chair of the Planning Committee for the Virginia CLE Annual Employment Law Update, and as a member of the Executive Council of the Virginia Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section.

R. Mark Dare (Partner),
Mark Dare, a native of Illinois, has resided in Northern Virginia since 1974. Prior to joining Isler Dare Ray Radcliffe & Connolly, P.C. in 2006, Mark was a partner in the Falls Church, Virginia office of the international law firm of Reed Smith, LLP, and its predecessors in Virginia, Hazel & Thomas, and Hazel, Beckhorn & Hanes, where he practiced for more than 30 years.

A past president of the Fairfax Bar Association (1994-95) and the Fairfax Law Foundation (2004-5), Mark is a frequent lecturer and author of written materials on employment law subjects. He is an editor of Employment Law in Virginia, the acknowledged “bible” of sources for the law of the workplace in Virginia, and he is the author of the book’s chapter on Unfair Competition, which deals with convenants not to compete, disloyalty, and theft of trade secrets.

Michelle Bodley Radcliffe (Partner),
Michelle Bodley Radcliffe is a partner with Isler Dare Ray Radcliffe & Connolly, P.C. Prior to beginning private practice, Michelle served a one year judicial clerkship with the Honorable James H. Michael, United States District Court, Western District of Virginia and then practiced for six years in Washington, D.C. with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, where she focused on civil litigation with an emphasis on defense cases.

Michelle often speaks on employment law issues at educational seminars for managers and human resources professionals.

Theresa M. Connolly (Partner),
Theresa is a partner with Isler Dare Ray Radcliffe & Connolly, P.C. Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Theresa was a partner at DLA Piper since 1996. Prior to relocating to the mid-Atlantic region, Theresa was an associate in the employment law group of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in New York City.

Theresa regularly advises clients on a broad spectrum of traditional labor and employment matters, including union avoidance, collective bargaining, negotiating employment contracts, drafting and enforcing restrictive covenants, developing personnel policies and practices, and complying with all employment-related statutes and programs. Theresa’s practice focuses heavily on training managers with regard to employment law and effective human resources practices to minimize litigation risk. She has been recognized as a leading employment lawyer by a number of publications including the Washington Business Journal, Washingtonian Magazine and Chambers USA. Theresa is a member of the bars of New York, Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.

Mark E. Papadopoulos (Associate),
Mark E. Papadopoulos is a senior associate with Isler Dare Ray Radcliffe & Connolly, P.C. After law school, he clerked for one year for the Honorable J.L. Edmondson on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to joining Isler Dare, Mark served as a Senior Policy Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Employment Standards at the Department of Labor. Prior to this appointment, Mark spent three years in the Solicitor’s Office of the Department of Labor where he rendered advice and litigated cases on behalf of the Department. Before his government service, Mark practiced for three years in Washington, D.C. with the firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher where he focused on civil and criminal litigation matters at both the trial and appellate levels. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut and D.C. as well as various federal courts including the Supreme Court of the United States.

Lori H. Turner (Associate),
Lori H. Turner is an associate with Isler Dare Ray Radcliffe & Connolly, P.C.

Lori has experience in advising and counseling clients in a wide range of labor and employment issues including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, wage and hour claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act, privacy and security requirements under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, the Consumer Credit Protection Act, and state garnishment and support orders. Lori also reviews and drafts employment agreements such as separation agreements, non-competition agreements, non-solicitation agreements, confidentiality/trade secret agreements, and executive employment agreements.

Sarah M. Haley (Associate),
Sarah M. Haley is an associate with Isler Dare Ray Radcliffe & Connolly, P.C.

Prior to beginning private practice, she served a one year judicial clerkship with the Arlington Circuit Court in Arlington, Virginia. Sarah has experience in advising and counseling clients in all aspects of labor and employment law, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and employment related tort claims such as defamation and duty of loyalty. Sarah also reviews and drafts employment policies and employment agreements such as separation agreements and executive employment agreements.
